Testimonials

HI, Joy
I do thank you for everything that you have done for us. My daughter is doing so good, she has been exercising and drinking plenty of water. She hasn't been eating as much and she has been measuring her portions. I bought a ball so we can exercise together.
God bless
Joyce L.

Dear Joyce,
On April 11, 1987, my whole life changed. It was the day that my father died. After his death, my attitude about my health and my lifestyle made a drastic decline. It has been that way for the last 19 years.

On October 16, 2006, God allowed a light to shine once again in my life. It was you and your program. Since October, I have gone from a size 24 to a dwindling 18. My energy level has increased, I am more active outside of my home, and I now enjoy shopping for and trying on different styles of clothes. No more sweat pants and big tee shirts to hide my shape from the peering eyes of the world. Exercise with Joy has taught me how to make small changes in my nutrition status and incorporate different forms of physical activity into my daily life.

I feel good about myself again. Most importantly, I feel good that I am still alive. Having family history that includes breast and lung cancer, heart disease and diabetes, I knew that I was a walking time bomb. I had tried other programs such as Medical Weight Loss and Weight Watchers, but neither of these provided the “one on one” weekly counseling sessions on coping with everyday stressors, instead of turning to “food for comfort”. Exercise with Joy has taught me how to control my hunger without starving myself. It has also taught me how to focus on my goal and not allow any distractions to take me off track. I look forward to seeing myself as a 14/16. I know that the ‘Best is yet to come’.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you….
Sincerely,
Dionne

Dear Joyce:
I want to take this time to express my gratitude and appreciation for all that you do. Since I started working out with you 5 weeks ago not only have I begun to change my exercise and eating habits; I am learning to value myself on every level. You truly motivate one to be a "whole" person in body, mind and spirit.

The exercise sessions are great and I see the cumulative results each time we meet. I am impressed with the fact that you not only have a definitive plan for me, but that you also take the time to listen to my requests such as my preference for calisthenics that I can easily do between our weekly sessions.

I love the fact that you are always thinking of new ways to meet my individual needs, keep me motivated and make it fun! This has not been my experience with other exercise professionals. I know that you really care and that is what makes you a "world class" professional.
You are the BEST!
Kindest regards,
P. A. M.

Dear Joy,
Wow! Didn’t think I would see or feel the difference this fast since starting your program months ago. The walks and low-impact exercises have motivated me to exercise on a regular basis and I feel so much better. You are what I needed!

I realize not every Personal Trainer has flexible hours, but you accommodated my schedule by coming at 6:30 in the morning. How in the world can you be so cheery that early in the morning? You are great!

My family and clients notice the different in my energy level and my face just glows… I plan to keep up the exercise program and use the nutrition information to stay healthy. The bottom line is, I won’t hesitate to call you when I need a motivator again.

Dear Joyce,
As I reflect upon what has been accomplished over the past three months, I am so tickled to have the opportunity to work with you.

As you know, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer late 2004 and I spent the first quarter of 2005 recovering from surgery and radiation. I was one of the lucky ones who did not have any cancer in my lymph nodes and the detection was very, very early so chemo could be avoided. It had three been years since my last mammography. I routinely tested annually because of some family history and the three years just caught up with me following a tragic event in which I lost my son in a car accident just two years prior to my diagnosis.

Six months after the start of my cancer fight, I was diagnosed with three herniated disks in my lower lumber. Much to my chagrin, the doctors and physical therapist confirmed that my so-called core muscles were essentially gone. I tried desperately to increase my strength, but I lacked so much form and energy it was almost dangerous.

I came across your business card at Hockessin Day Spa early January 2006 and the rest is history! I have increased my overall strength so significantly that I work out in some way almost daily. Your willingness to work with both my daughter and I has been especially fun and your constant, consistent positive attitude has made me push further than I would have ever imagined. We are so excited as we head off to our scheduled St.Lucia vacation next week, looking and feeling much better than either of us felt three months ago.
Sincerely,
Kathy

P. S. Today’s Wilmington News Journal highlighted both Laura Bush and Condoleeza Rice’s efforts in the gym. Mrs. Bush is lifting 3 to 5 pound weights. Huh…I do 8, 10, and 12 pounds easily! I started in January with 5 pounds and obviously, I have a better trainer than the White House ladies!

I am an 84-year-old woman who was diagnosed with carpal tunnel and had broken my arm resulting in my inability to open jars and cans. I had very little grip strength and was worried about my quality of life diminishing before beginning my exercise program. After 9 months of training with Joy, I have regained use of my arms and wrists and can again perform these day-to-day tasks. The progressive weight program Joy uses has helped me tremendously.

Joy is an inspiration to the seniors and they look forward to seeing her each week. Joy is dependable, caring, and always makes the seniors laugh. Her exercise program is safe and it changes constantly so they don’t get bored.

Our seniors are between 70 and 96 years young and she works with all of them. She does chair exercises, uses balls for coordination, lightweights, bands, and they do a lot of walking in the gym for cardio.

She also created a “Healthy Food” quiz from the literature she hands out and encourages them to read food labels and teaches them about the best and worse foods to eat for their age group.

One of the most important things about her program is it keeps them moving and makes them feel good!

Dear Joyce:
I wanted to take a moment and let you know what an impact you have had on my family and me in the area of health and fitness.

I have been plagued by excess weight and poor eating habits most of my life. This has also affected my children, now teenagers. I decided to ask for your help as a personal trainer to try and change things.

We met twice a week but the pain in my knees was so great that I couldn't exercise for long periods of time. Over the next few months I improved my overall health as you motivated me to continue to exercise (which I now do in the pool), encouraged me to read food labels, introduced me to healthier foods, and inspired me to do things for myself that I've never done before.

Your methods are truly designed on an individual basis. I used to think a personal trainer was just there to tell a person what exercises to do, and how to do them. You do so much more-you help me pick out foods, you shop for things for me, and you really and truly help me to believe in myself.

I want to end this letter by telling you of a conversation I had with my fourteen year old daughter yesterday in the car on the way to the food store. (My daughter had probably 15-20 extra pounds, which she has been consistently losing over the past several months.) In the car she said-

" ...Mom, you know how Miss Joyce taught us to read labels and not get those partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated oils? Well, I read everything now, and just don't buy stuff that has that in it. And if for some reason I do eat it, I don't feel good. You know Mom, she really taught me to watch that stuff."

I was flabbergasted at the depth of her understanding of what you've been teaching us.
Thank you Joy!

Dear Joyce,
I am writing this letter to thank you so much for your guidance and direction on diet and exercise for me. You have helped me to change my life! I have lost almost 40 pounds and I am so much stronger and I feel better than I have in years… I look forward to continuing my journey to better health and losing even more weight and stretching myself to accomplish even more things "outside of the box." I never could have done any of it without your continued expertise and ongoing support, especially through the plateaus and the rough spots.

Your energy and positive outlook have changed me in other ways too. At 50 years old I now realize and know in my spirit that there is so much more to come in my life! I am now reaching far beyond what I ever thought possible both in terms of my workout program and development of my physique, but also in terms of my personal goals in other areas of my life. You are a living testimony to anything being possible and you have helped me to open my eyes and see all the possibilities to come!
Love,
Verna L.
